Making your first moves in Nim
Read the aim of Nim, then make your first move. Remove the last counter on the board to win. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Use the example below to understand a decision.
A small practice goal
Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.
What the game asks you to do
Remove the last counter on the board to win. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.
Work through the instructions
- Player 1 chooses a pile.
- Remove at least one counter, and up to all counters, from that pile.
- The next player chooses a pile and an amount.
- Continue until no counters remain.
Making selections and moves
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.
Learn from a sample situation
If only one counter remains in one heap, taking it wins under the normal-play rule used here. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Read the matching step again.
A mistake to avoid
Only one pile may be changed per turn. Check the rule before repeating the action. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
